Albino SquirrelSightings of Eastern Gray Squirrels are very common in South Carolina. However, a completely white albino squirrel is quite uncommon. Extremely unusual is the observation of this animal over the last four years in the same general area. This animal is located on the Forest and Wildlife wetland research area in West Columbia. This particular area is home to numerous Barred Owls. A nesting pair of Red Tailed Hawks inhabits a pine tree less than 400 yards from where the squirrel has been observed. You would think his color would make him an easy target for a predator. I guess they don’t like vanilla icing on their squirrels.
